Free, independent guides. We are not McAfee, Norton or Microsoft, and we will never ask you to phone anyone.

Privacy policy

We collect as little about you as we possibly can. Here is exactly what that means.

Last updated November 3, 2026

The short version

  • You can read every guide without an account, a form or a sign-up.
  • The steps you tick and your text-size choice are saved only in your own browser, never sent to us.
  • If you email us, we use your message only to reply.
  • We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not show advertising on our pages.
  • Optional advertising-measurement cookies are off unless you switch them on.

Who we are

This policy covers Steady PC Guide (https://steadypcguide.info), published by Steady Guides Media, Columbus, Ohio, USA. We are the "controller" of the small amount of personal information described here. You can contact us about privacy at hello@steadypcguide.info.

Information you send us

If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and anything you write. We use it only to read and answer your message and to correct our guides. We keep emails for up to 12 months and then delete them, unless we need to keep one longer to deal with a complaint or a legal request.

Information collected automatically

Like every website, our hosting provider records basic technical information when a page is requested: your IP address, the page, the date and time, and your browser type. These logs are used only to keep the site secure and working, and are deleted on the host's normal schedule. We do not use them to identify you or build a profile.

Information stored on your own device

To make guides easier to follow, the site uses your browser's local storage, which stays on your device and is never sent to us:

  • steady-steps entries remember which steps you have ticked in each guide, so your progress is still there after a restart.
  • steady-text remembers whether you chose larger text.
  • steady-cookie-notice remembers that you closed the cookie message.
  • steady-consent remembers whether you accepted or rejected measurement cookies, if you were asked.

You can remove these at any time with "Clear my ticks" on a guide, or by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. See our cookie policy for more detail.

Third-party content

Our pages, fonts, images, styles and scripts are all served from this website. We do not embed social media buttons, chat tools, video players or advertising, so simply reading a guide does not send information to other companies.

Our guides link to other websites, such as McAfee, Norton, Microsoft and government fraud-reporting services. Once you follow a link, that website's own privacy policy applies.

Advertising and measurement

We may advertise our guides on Google so that people searching for help can find them. If you reach us by clicking one of those ads, Google may record that click under Google's privacy policy (another website).

To learn which ads actually help readers, we may switch on Google's measurement tag. If we do, it runs in Google Consent Mode with advertising and analytics storage set to "denied" by default. Measurement cookies are set only if you choose "Accept cookies", and you can change your mind at any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page. Right now no measurement tag is switched on, so this site sets no cookies at all. The cookie message on your first visit simply tells you so.

Where data protection laws such as the UK GDPR or EU GDPR apply, we rely on our legitimate interest in answering messages and keeping the site secure, and on your consent for optional measurement cookies.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to how we use it, and to complain to your data protection authority. Email hello@steadypcguide.info and we will respond within 30 days.

US residents: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in state privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act. We honor Global Privacy Control signals by treating them as a choice to reject measurement cookies.

Children

This site is written for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has emailed us, contact us and we will delete the message.

Security

The site is served only over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), loads no code from other companies by default, and uses strict security settings that stop other sites from injecting content into our pages.

Changes to this policy

If our practices change, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted on the home page for 30 days.
